If you’re about to get married, I am sure this thought has crossed your mind.
Don’t worry, you’re not the first to think about this!
I find it pretty common to see couples dread the thought of rain on their special day. I know it’s not an ideal situation, but you must have heard the expression somewhere along the lines of making a bad day into a good one.
I am going to tell you how to deal with a rainy day, given the fact that I have shot some of my favourite weddings in the rain!
Have a Plan B, Always
Plan B saves the day when things go unexpectedly.
You must always plan for the possibility that it will rain, and when it does, what you are going to do about it, ESPECIALLY if your wedding is planned to be outdoors.
If that is the case, make sure that they have covered areas should the clouds shed tears of joy on your big day. Let everyone from the photographers and caterers know about your plan B so that things get sorted at even the slightest hint of rain.
A wedding planner can also come in handy to help you create a plan B for a rainy day.
Matching Gumboots
Keep with yourself a set of comfy gumboots or any pair of shoes that is easy to walk in and saves you from rain. If it rains, it’s going to be hell walking in heels, especially if there are outdoors you need to trek.
You can even colour coordinate your shoes for a great photo session. There is nothing better than a not-so-perfect candid shoot where the smiles reach the eyes, and all you care about is making some great memories with your loved one.
Trust The Photographer
Not to toot my own horn, but photographers know how to adapt and make the best of any situation!
If anything, cloudy weather means the perfect blend of light and shade that is not too annoying. Moreover, I have had the pleasure of doing some of my best photoshoots while it was raining. It all comes down to the knowledge of what you can work with and the ways you can use rain to your advantage, and photographers know that well.
Embrace The Unexpected
What matters most is that you embrace the unexpected.
Remember why you’re here, and it’s definitely not because of the weather. It is because you are crazily and madly in love with each other and you want to celebrate that with your friends and family around.
Even if it rains, the most useful thing to know is that you can still have your perfect wedding day, even if it is not going the way you imagined it to be. After all, what are surprises, if not unexpected occurrences?
All you need to do is to live in the moment, embrace the weather as it is, and use this opportunity to cuddle a bit more with your beloved and get some great shots that tell some great stories.
